Butte County, South Dakota

Butte County is located in extreme western South Dakota. It is named for the French word for a hill.
Located in the heart of the Black Hills, the largest city and seat in the county is Belle Fourche.
Butte County borders Harding, Perkins, Mead and Lawrence Counties in South Dakota, as well as Crook County, Wyoming and Carter County, Montana.
Main highways through the county include US-85, US-212, SD-34, SD-79 and SD-168.
